WHO ARE WE?

Ohana Gardens Detroit was founded by Keith and Diane Hoye of Highland Park, Michigan. They have always been interested in health and wellness for both their family and their large community of friends and neighbors, and creating this garden was necessary.

After Diane’s mother passed away in 2007 from cancer, they realized the food we eat has a direct result on the life we live. Food can help fight cancer - one of the leading causes of death in many communities. Eating nourishing, unprocessed, homegrown, and clean food replenishes our cells and helps our bodies to thrive.

Though they have been growing food for over 10 years, Keith and Diane learned about how to make their own farm from Will Allen, farmer, founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc. They took his 5-month program, Commercial Urban Agriculture, in 2015, and have since been growing microgreens in Ohana Gardens.

Currently, Ohana Gardens grows microgreens, green, cherry, and heirloom tomatoes, okra, string beans, bell peppers, tea herbs, eggplant, collards, kale, sweet potatoes, potatoes, swiss chard, yellow peppers, onions, squash, and celery, and is sold in three markets in the Detroit area. They hope to expand to even more markets soon!
